Cannabis Doula Course

Our mission is to provide comprehensive education and training to birth professionals who are interested in incorporating cannabis into their practice. Our goal is to empower doulas with the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to support birthing parents who choose to use cannabis during their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment that encourages critical thinking, collaboration, and the highest standards of professionalism. We believe that by educating doulas on the benefits and risks of cannabis use during pregnancy and childbirth, we can help parents make informed decisions and improve outcomes for families.

Course Overview

The Cannabis Doula Course is designed to provide comprehensive training to aspiring doulas, caregivers, and healthcare professionals seeking to incorporate cannabis into their practice. This course covers various aspects of cannabis use, including the history and legalities of cannabis, its therapeutic benefits and potential risks, dosage, and administration methods. The course is designed to give participants a deep understanding of how cannabis can be used safely and effectively to support clients during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Upon completion, participants will receive a Level 1 Cannacian certification and workbooks to reference as they provide support to clients.

Day One:

  • History of Cannabis: Understanding the origins and evolution of cannabis use in various cultures and its historical significance.

  • Anecdotal Evidence and Self-Educating: Exploring the personal experiences and self-education on cannabis use in pregnancy, labor, breastfeeding, and postpartum.

  • Preparing the Conversation: Developing communication skills and strategies to initiate and navigate the conversation with clients about cannabis use.

  • Discover eCS: Understanding the Endocannabinoid System (eCS) and its role in regulating physiological processes in the body.

  • Learn Consumption Methods: Understanding the different ways cannabis can be consumed and the pros and cons of each method.

Day Two:

  • Targeted Dosing: Understanding the importance of targeted dosing to achieve the desired effects of cannabis and avoid potential risks.

  • Hemp v. Cannabis: Understanding the difference between hemp and cannabis plants and the implications for their use in pregnancy, labor, breastfeeding, and postpartum.

  • Cannabis Doula Support: Understanding the role of a cannabis doula and how they can provide support and education to clients using cannabis during pregnancy, labor, breastfeeding, and postpartum.

  • Laws on Cannabis: Understanding the current laws and regulations related to cannabis use during pregnancy and postpartum.

  • Fertility and Cannabis: Understanding the potential impact of cannabis use on fertility and preconception care.

  • Pregnancy and Cannabis: Understanding the potential benefits and risks of cannabis use during pregnancy, and how to make informed decisions regarding its use.

  • Labor and Cannabis: Understanding the potential benefits and risks of cannabis use during labor, and how to incorporate it into a birth plan.

  • Postpartum and Cannabis: Understanding the potential benefits and risks of cannabis use during postpartum recovery, and how to safely incorporate it into a postpartum care plan.

  • Breastfeeding and Cannabis: Understanding the potential impact of cannabis use on breastfeeding, and how to make informed decisions regarding its use while breastfeeding.

Instructors

Kristin Reiswig is an experienced and certified Birth and Postpartum Doula with a passion for providing emotional, physical, and informational support to expecting and new parents. She holds a Cannacian™ Level 3 certification as a Medical Cannabis Counselor and is dedicated to supporting her clients' autonomy and choices throughout their pregnancy and postpartum journey.

As an instructor for the Cannabis Doula Course, Kristin brings her extensive knowledge and expertise to help doulas understand the role of medical cannabis in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. Her focus on evidence-based information and respect for her clients' voices make her an excellent guide for doulas looking to expand their knowledge and certification in cannabis education.

Kristin's love of travel and eagerness to learn from every person's life make her an engaging and approachable instructor, committed to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all participants.

Abbigail Thaler is a Cannacian™ Level 1-certified educator on cannabis and a trauma informed Holistic Doula who will be instructing the Cannabis Doula Course. As a mother of two and a trained professional, Abbigail has a deep understanding of the challenges that parents face during pregnancy and postpartum. She is committed to ensuring that her clients receive the highest level of care and support through education and guidance. She brings her expertise, compassion, and dedication to the classroom, where she will teach students about the benefits of cannabis use during pregnancy and postpartum, and how to effectively incorporate it into their doula practice.

Certification

The certification portion of the Cannabis Doula Course is designed to equip doulas with the knowledge and skills necessary to educate their clients about cannabis use during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Upon completion of the course, doulas will receive a Level 1 Cannacian certification, which indicates that they have demonstrated an understanding of the scientific, legal, and ethical considerations related to cannabis use in the perinatal period.

The certification process involves several components, including attending all three days of the course, actively participating in class discussions and activities, and completing assignments and quizzes.

By earning a Cannacian certification, doulas will be able to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise in working with clients who may be considering using cannabis during pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and/or postpartum. They will also have access to ongoing professional development opportunities to deepen their knowledge and skills in this area of practice.

  • To enroll in the cannabis doula course, there are a few requirements that must be met.

  • Participants must be at least 18 years old.

  • Participants should have access to a computer or device with internet access to attend the online class sessions.

  • Participants should be willing to engage in discussions, ask questions, and participate in class activities and assignments.
